Presentation of the winery

The Domaine des Planes was bought in 1980 by Ilse Rieder-Eberbach and Christophe Rieder graduates of the Graduate School of Viticulture and Enology of Geisenheim in Germany.
The former owner, Mr Paul A Müller, had already cultivated the estate ecologically and had decided to continue in this spirit.

At the beginning the farm counted 15 ha in vineyards and currently we grow 30 ha in AOC Côtes de Provence and 5 ha of IGP des Maures.
Since 2005 the SCEA Planes Famille Rieder has been created and the son Stéphane, an oenology graduate, started at the Domaine and in 2007 his brother Oliver, graduated from a business school and a BTS in Viticulture and Oenology Joined their mother.
In 2016, David, the youngest brother, graduated with a BTS in viticulture and oenology, who completes the family team whose tasks are well determined.

The Domaine des Planes has an exceptional geographical situation on the first foothills of the Maures, in one piece on 96 ha between forests, maquis and on 100 m altitude.
The soils are mica-schist and gneiss.

Organic Culture

The Domaine des Planes obtained certification in Organic Farming in the year 2009 and is certified by Qualisud FR-BIO-16.

Our vines are grown without weed killers, insecticides or synthetic chemicals.
Organic  amendments and green manures (rye and phacelia) with a row out of two are applied to feed the soil. Regular plowing allows a mechanical weeding favoring the microbial life and the rooting of the vines.
The bios treatments are based on sulfur and copper to fight cryptogamic diseases (Downy mildew and Oidium)

Each winter, we leave our vineyard to a shepherd who comes to graze his herd of sheep, as was done in another era.

The Cellar

The cellar was built in 1985 and renovated in 2012. It is equipped entirely with stainless steel tanks and high performance equipment (pneumatic press, thermoregulated tanks …)
The capacity of the cellar is 2500 hl in stainless steel tanks and 600 hl in oak barrels (51 hl capacity).

During vinification, each plot is vinified separately to guarantee traceability of the vine to the consumer and to adapt the best vinification technique to the must according to the plot.
From the harvest to the bottling, an irreproachable hygiene in cellar is for us one of the keys of the success ……

We start the harvest at the end of August for about 3 weeks and we take care to harvest the grapes in perfect maturity.
The harvest is mechanical and it starts early in the morning for maximum freshness. As fresher is the harvest, as less color the berries diffuses into the juice. The current tendency of rosés of Provence tends towards pale colors and to the brilliant robe.
Our reds are aged in oak barrels (51 hl) for 9-18 months to refine aromas and tannins.

Bottling is made by us. We have our own bottling line with the best technologies for preserving the quality of our wines.
